Last week, Kraken and Phoenix classes joined together to dissect pig hearts. Students first identified the exterior features of the heart before employing safe scalpel skills to 'butterfly' the organ for easier viewing of the inside features. After identifying the main chambers, vessels and valves, students mapped blood flow through all four chambers and major vessels using coloured straws to indicate oxygenated and deoxygenated blood.
A hearty well-done to all the students for participating, some more enthusiastically than others, and transferring their 'book' knowledge to hands-on exploration.
