New Structure to Strengthen Learning

Next year we will introduce a small timetable change designed to strengthen learning and create a more balanced school day at Atherton International School.

Lessons will move from 45 minutes to 50 minutes, creating six lessons each day instead of seven shorter periods. Teachers often find that 45 minutes can feel quite rushed, especially when lessons include explanation, discussion, practice, and checking understanding. The slightly longer lesson blocks will allow learning to flow more naturally and give students time to explore ideas in greater depth.

The new timetable will also create a clearer rhythm to the day: two lessons, a break, two lessons, lunch, and then two lessons before after-school activities. This means students will have only two lessons after lunch rather than three, helping them maintain energy and focus through the afternoon.

As part of this adjustment, Fridays will now follow the same learning schedule as the rest of the week, with the school day finishing at 3:00 p.m. However, there will be no After School Activities on Fridays.

Some Friday early-finish days will still be scheduled across the year to allow time for staff training and collaborative planning. The full school calendar, including these dates, will be posted on the school website today.

Overall, the new structure provides more consistent learning time for students while creating a calmer and more balanced AIS school day
